Welcome to The Strengthen Your Relationship Podcast

Strengthen Your Relationship Podcast 300 x 300

We’ll explore the central issues couples face today in trying to make a committed, long-term relationship or marriage work. In addition to sharing insights from my therapy work with individuals and couples over the last twenty years, we will examine some of the research findings about healthy relationships. I’ll also be interviewing relationship experts on a variety of marital/relationship issues.

The podcast is shaped around questions couples have asked me through the years, both at workshops I’ve held and in couples counseling sessions—questions from couples wanting to know how to make a marriage work.

For instance:

  • What is a healthy relationship?
  • What makes a good marriage?
  • What are the signs of a healthy relationship?
  • What are the signs of a relationship in trouble?
  • How do we know if we need marriage help?
  • What are things we can do to improve our relationship right now?

You’ve probably already seen in other facets of your life how being proactive can save you a lot of headache down the road. Your relationship is no different—learning about common trouble spots can go a long way toward helping you avoid them or make them manageable when you get there. No one is perfect and therefore no relationship is perfect, but learning about the dynamics of marriage and intimate relationships and taking an active part in the health of your relationship can mean the difference between leaving your relationship to chance and helping create a relationship that lasts.

With that said, learning doesn’t have to be tortuous! Quite the contrary…we learn best when we’re interested and engaged in the subject. While some people prefer reading as the means for information gathering, others are auditory learners, getting more out of material they hear. I created my podcast with those types of learners in mind.

“It’s funny,” one of my clients said to me once, “I used to think that marriage was something you did or didn’t do. I never thought it was something I’d need to learn about, or that we could discover better ways to do it once we were there. But now that I’m in a marriage, and I’m committed to making it work, I realize that learning is a big part of it. It makes sense, really. Anything worth doing takes effort.”

In the Strengthen Your Relationship podcast, you’ll get practical, no-nonsense marriage and relationship tips. But in addition to hearing suggestions for what you might do if you run into trouble spots, you’ll also get the psychology behind why you may have ended up in those trouble spots. And most importantly, you’ll learn simple things you and your partner can do to make your marriage or relationship healthier overall, and therefore less vulnerable to major issues in the future.
